FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How our research works, how we make money, and why we think most traders only need two good brokers.

Why shouldn't I simply open an account directly with a broker?

Most traders evaluate brokers using marketing materials, online reviews, and headline pricing. We believe broker selection deserves deeper due diligence. M1Strategic consolidates extensive research into a structured platform designed to help traders better understand execution environments, infrastructure quality, operational considerations, and available pricing programs before making a decision.

Can I access discounted pricing through the brokers featured in your research?

In some cases, yes. Certain providers featured within our research may offer promotional pricing arrangements, preferred commission schedules, or other member benefits.

When available, these opportunities are disclosed transparently. While our primary focus remains on broker due diligence, favorable pricing can be an additional benefit for active traders.

Why do you only feature a small number of brokers?

Many broker comparison websites attempt to catalogue hundreds of firms. Our philosophy is different.

After extensive research, we have found that most traders do not need dozens of brokerage options. They need one or two high quality environments that align with their objectives, infrastructure requirements, and operational preferences.

Our research focuses on identifying a select group of brokers that consistently meet our standards for execution quality, operational reliability, infrastructure, reputation, and overall trader experience.

We believe quality is far more valuable than quantity.

How does M1Strategic make money?

M1Strategic is supported through a combination of member access fees and commercial relationships with certain industry participants, including advertising, sponsorship, promotional, and marketing arrangements.

These relationships help support the continued development of our research platform, broker intelligence resources, and ongoing industry coverage. However, commercial relationships do not dictate our research methodology, evaluation criteria, or the providers included within our research.

Inclusion within our research is not purchased, and commercial relationships do not determine how providers are evaluated. Our research process is guided by internal evaluation standards, industry experience, and ongoing due diligence across a range of factors including infrastructure, operational quality, execution environments, and overall trader experience.

Users remain free to conduct their own due diligence and choose whichever provider they believe best meets their needs.

What types of brokers and asset classes do you focus on?

Our research currently focuses primarily on foreign exchange, CFDs, and multi asset trading environments offered by a range of international brokerage firms and execution venues.

As the platform continues to evolve, we may expand our research coverage into additional asset classes and market segments where we believe meaningful due diligence can provide value to traders.

Is M1Strategic a registered financial brokerage or investment fund?

No. M1Strategic is a broker intelligence and research platform.

We do not operate as a broker, dealer, investment adviser, portfolio manager, investment fund, or financial institution. We do not hold client funds, manage client capital, execute transactions, provide brokerage services, or determine the suitability of any brokerage, investment, or financial product for any individual.

Our publications and research materials are intended solely for informational and educational purposes.

How often is your research updated?

The brokerage industry is constantly evolving. Firms change ownership, pricing structures, technology providers, regulations, and operational practices.

Our research is reviewed and updated periodically to reflect material developments that may impact the overall trading environment or the information available to members.

Do you recommend a specific broker?

No. M1Strategic does not recommend or determine the suitability of any brokerage, investment, or financial product for any individual.

Our role is to provide research, due diligence, and market intelligence that can assist traders in conducting their own evaluation process. The final decision always remains with the user.

Why pay for broker research when information is available online?

Broker information can certainly be found online. The challenge is that it is often fragmented across marketing materials, forums, reviews, and third party websites.

M1Strategic consolidates extensive research, industry knowledge, and due diligence into a structured format designed to save traders significant research time and provide a more comprehensive view of the brokerage landscape.

Do you work with or for any particular broker?

No. We are not affiliated with any single brokerage firm.

While certain providers may maintain advertising, sponsorship, promotional, or marketing relationships with M1Strategic, no broker controls our platform, our research methodology, or the providers we choose to evaluate.

Our focus is on identifying and researching brokerage environments that we believe deserve serious consideration.

What factors do you evaluate when researching brokers?

Our research evaluates a wide range of factors including execution models, liquidity depth and prime brokerage relationships, server infrastructure and co-location, technology offerings, operational history, pricing structures, regulatory standing, funding options, platform capabilities, and overall trader experience.

We believe broker selection involves far more than spreads and commissions alone. Each report runs to 20 in-depth sections covering every part of the brokerage operation.

Why not simply choose the broker with the tightest spread?

A tight spread only tells you the price of the first slice of volume. What matters for any meaningful trade size is how much liquidity sits behind that price.

Some brokers show tight top-of-book pricing with very little depth behind it, often while running a B-book against their own clients. Place a sizeable order and it sweeps through the available volume, filling at progressively worse prices. The headline spread looks attractive, but the true cost shows up as slippage.

Brokers with a direct prime brokerage relationship, deep aggregated liquidity, and infrastructure co-located close to the market tend to deliver fills much closer to the quoted price. That is why our research looks past the headline spread.

How many brokers should I use?

In our view, two. Beyond two, extra brokers only add noise, more platforms to monitor, and more to manage.

Two genuinely solid brokers diversify your fills across independent liquidity pools, give you built-in redundancy if one platform ever has an issue, and provide an independent price record. Even the best brokers occasionally print a rogue spread or an erroneous fill, and being able to show what your other broker was pricing at that exact moment gives your broker hard evidence to advocate for you with its liquidity providers.

Our shortlist is designed to help you choose the right pair.

Have you actually traded at the brokers you research?

Yes. We have traded at every broker we recommend. Our research combines verified public data with real-world experience, not paid placements or marketing material.

Who is M1Strategic designed for?

M1Strategic is designed for active traders seeking a deeper understanding of the brokerage landscape.

Our members include discretionary traders, algorithmic traders, high volume traders, proprietary trading groups, money managers, and other market participants who value research driven decision making when evaluating brokerage environments.

Does M1Strategic receive compensation if I open an account?

In some cases, yes.

Certain providers may compensate M1Strategic through advertising, sponsorship, promotional, or marketing arrangements.

These relationships are disclosed where applicable and do not dictate our research methodology, evaluation criteria, or inclusion standards. Users remain free to choose any provider they wish.

Are all brokers included in your research?

No. Inclusion within our research is not automatic.

Our research focuses on a curated group of brokerage environments that meet our internal evaluation standards. Many brokers are intentionally excluded because they do not align with the scope, quality standards, or objectives of our research platform.
